Beyond Inclusion Beyond Empowerment: A Developmental Strategy to Liberate Everyone is a curriculum created by Leticia Nieto, PhD. The model is complex and rich with learning. It addresses systemic social inequalities, how they shape humans and our consciousness, and what we can do about it. People enjoy the experiential style of the training because we use movement and exercises to concretize the learning. Also unique to this training is the way it addresses all areas of oppression – age, disability, religion, ethnicity, social class, sexual orientation, indigenous background and gender. What has been most compelling to me about the model is the way it delves into the psychology of oppression. More specifically, the model addresses the way the alienation and violence of oppression impact our bodies, our consciousness, and our freedom. Conversely, the model examines privilege and how that shapes our world and lives as well.
I am proud to have helped Leticia Nieto complete the book as a co-author. And, for nearly ten years, I have had the opportunity to share this learning with organizations around the country.
